With today’s seemingly endless options for Power, it can be quite confusing for a consumer. Before you make any purchase, consider the following: Because power is mainly a function of Speed and versatility, make sure that you are buying a machine with enough power to do your specific jobs at speeds that are profitable. For cutting purposes, a general rule (specific applications and materials my be different) is that 25 – 30 watts of power will cut through 1/8” material. 50 watts of power is adequate for ¼” thick and ½” materials will need to be cut with 100 watts of power. Thicker materials can sometimes be cut by using multiple passes, but for production needs, it pays to stick to recommended powers. Again, prior to any purchase make sure that the system can do what you need it to do. Additionally, you might also want to factor in future needs and consider buying the most power you can afford. This will allow you to not only perform needed tasks profitably, but to grow into further capabilities as well.
